Situated on a small hilltop offering stunning ocean views, this small to medium sized, family-run, travellers resort offers genuine Australian hospitality to all guests and is situated in the heart of the Whitsundays in Tropical North Queensland Australia.

The fully renovated hostel provides a salt-water pool surrounded by hammocks, sun lounges and palm trees and a superb sun-baking area. A games room with internet access, pool table and pinball machine, fully equipped laundry and self-catering kitchen (where everything works!), lounge/video/television room and an intimate licensed bar area. Sleeping arrangements include double, twin and four-share rooms. Air-conditioning and fresh linen are provided although rooms do not have ensuites. All rooms are serviced daily.

Backpackers By The Bay is the only purpose built hostel in the Whitsunday's, and consequently the emphasis is on guest interaction and networking. Every evening, social activities are conducted during the 'Happy Hour' of 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Guests are put into teams and compete in quizzes - either trivia or music - with the winning team receiving a bottle of champagne.

The hostel has a tour desk where guests can receive unbiased advice on the myriad of water and land-based activities available in the region. Local and stand-by rates are often offered giving guests the opportunity to save substantial amounts of money. Guests who book overnight sailing tours and dive courses directly through the hostel tour desk also receive a bonus one nights accommodation free of charge.

Whilst the hostel is located only a four minute walk from all the nightlife of Airlie Beach, guests arriving via coach are met by the hostel's courtesy bus. Backpackers By The Bay offers a quiet and relaxing place to sleep after a day of sailing, or a night out on the town.
